นายอภิรักษ์ โกษะโยธิน ผู้ว่าราชการกรุงเทพมหานคร (กทม.) เปิดเผยว่า กทม.ร่วมกับสำนักงานศิลปวัฒนธรรมร่วมสมัย กระทรวงวัฒนธรรม สมาคมถ่ายภาพแห่งประเทศไทย ในพระบรมราชูปถัมภ์ และหอศิลปวัฒนธรรมแห่งกรุงเทพมหานคร จัดนิทรรศการภาพถ่ายฝีพระหัตถ์สมเด็จพระเทพรัตนราชสุดาฯ สยามบรมราชกุมารี เรื่องว่าตามแนวพระราชดำริ ชีวิตที่หมุนไปไม่หยุดยั้ง ในวันที่ 29 กรกฎาคม- 24 สิงหาคม 2551 ตั้งแต่เวลา 10.00-21.00น. หยุดทุกวันจันทร์ ณ ชั้น 9 หอศิลปวัฒนธรรมแห่งกรุงเทพมหานคร แยกปทุมวัน กรุงเทพฯ โดยงานดังกล่าวสมเด็จพระเทพรัตนราชสุดาฯ ทรงพระกรุณาโปรดเกล้าฯพระราชทานภาพถ่ายฝีพระหัตถ์จำนวน 230 ภาพ ที่ทรงฉายเก็บไว้ตั้งแต่ พ.ศ. 2547 ถึงปัจจุบันให้นำมาแสดง โดยรูปแบบนิทรรศการจะเป็นการตามรอยเสด็จพระราชดำเนินของสมเด็จพระเทพฯ ครั้งเสด็จฯ ไปยังสถานที่ต่างๆ และในการนี้สมเด็จพระเทพรัตนราชสุดาฯจะเสด็จพระราชดำเนินทรงเปิดนิทรรศการในวันอาทิตย์ที่ 27 กรกฎาคม 2551 เวลา 17.30 น. และทรงบรรยายพิเศษภาพถ่ายฝีพระหัตถ์ให้แก่ผู้ร่วมงานอีกด้วย จึงขอเชิญชวนประชาชนเฝ้ารับเสด็จในวันและเวลาดังกล่าว

นายอภิรักษ์กล่าวอีกว่า ภาพถ่ายฝีพระหัตถ์ทั้งหมดที่จัดแสดงในนิทรรศการจะได้นำมารวบรวมไว้ในหนังสือภาพถ่ายฝีพระหัตถ์ ชีวิตที่หมุนไปไม่หยุดยั้ง Always Roaming with a Hungry Heart เพื่อจำหน่ายเป็นที่ระลึกจำนวน 5,000 เล่ม ในราคาเล่มละ 900 บาท นอกจากนี้จะจัดการประมูลภาพถ่ายฝีพระหัตถ์ที่พระองค์พระราชทานจำนวน 20 ภาพ ซึ่งรายได้ทั้งหมดจะนำทูลเกล้าฯถวายโดยเสด็จพระราชกุศลตามพระราชอัธยาศัยต่อไป. Whitespace Gallery and Liam’s Gallery are very pleased to announce an extensive showcase of works by the internationally celebrated Thai photographer Ohm Phanphiroj. Whitespace Gallery will exhibit a selection of photographs from Ohm’s current series New Identity while Liam’s Gallery will show works from the artist’s books Rare Views
(2006) and Night Hawks (2007). Both books are published by Bruno Gmunder Verlag GmbH in Berlin. Signed copies of Night Hawks will be available at Liam’s Gallery.

New Identity is a series of triptychs of Thai transsexuals which employ historical conventions from ethnographic photography. That is, conventions which suggest an objective truth about ‘types’ of people. However, rather than claiming a general truth about the nature and appearance of trans-sexuality, Phanphiroj invites the viewer to consider the psychological dimensions of physical transformation. The artist’s subjects are posed in various states of address and self-reflection. Against the background of recent sensationalist stories in the media about teenage transsexuals, New Identity offers a nuanced, more complex, view of how sexuality and gender can be understood in terms of change and mutability.

Selections from Rare Views and Night Hawks extend insights into Phanphiroj’s on-going explorations of identity, contemporary ideals of beauty and the essential humanity of the naked body. Emerging from recent trends in international art and fashion photography, these photographs gently examine a variety of expressions of masculinity while maintaining a provocative edge.

Chusak Srikwan’s modern shadow puppets

show today’s Thai society in a satirical light

In an exhibition taking a playful but critical view of Thai society and politics, Chusak Srikwan creates his own modern shadow puppet figures based on the southern Siamese tradition of ‘nang talung.’ The show will open at 7:30 p.m. on June 13 at WHITESPACE Gallery with a special performance of the artist’s own shadow puppet theatre.

“Shadow Play” is Chusak’s second solo show, after he was featured in the Brand New exhibition of emerging talent at Bangkok University Gallery in 2006. A 2006 graduate of Silpakorn University, Chusak has taken part in more than a dozen group exhibitions in Thailand, as well as the 2007 Pocheon Asia Biennale in Korea. Among his dozen awards are a silver and a bronze medal in the Thailand National Art Works exhibition.

“My art work is inspired by ‘Nang Talung,’ the shadow puppetry that is part of the culture of Thailand’s south. My contemporary puppets comment on recent events, and the dynamics of politics and society. The symbolism of the puppets and their ironic appearances are intended to raise awareness among the audience.”

In addition to the shadow puppet figures, the show will feature some of Chusak’s drawings

ต้องยอมรับว่า ผมอยากจัดงานนี้เพราะ นายสมัคร สุนทรเวช ที่ให้สัมภาษณ์กับ CNN บิดเบื้อนข้อเท็จเกี่ยวกับจำนวนผู้ตายในเหตุการณ์ 6 ตุลา 19 ผมคิดว่าถ้าจะจัดงานนี้เพื่อตอบโต้นายกฯสมัครเพียงคนเดียว ก็จะเป็นการเสียเวลาเปล่าๆ แถมเป็นการให้เกียรติกับเขาเกินไป ที่สำคัญสังคมไทยจะไม่ได้อะไร นอกจากความพยายามจะพิสูจน์ข้อเท็จจริงเอากับนักการเมืองที่กลับกลอก
